News Snippets – No.1

Quite a lot going on, but nothing significant that deserves its own post. So here is a brief summary of news and events that are happening, or soon will be:

Einasleigh

Work has commenced on re-instating the Einasleigh Turning Angle. Einasleigh will also be re-instated as a staff station. This will be handy for working charter trains over the section because it will allow a “cross” (where the trains can pass each other) at the mid point between Mt Surprise and Forsayth.

2009 Prices

We have now received the updated prices from our suppliers and will be publishing the new prices next week. These will be uploaded onto the main website.

Merchandise

If you have worn out your Savannahlander polo shirt already and simply don’t know how you’re going to replace it, fear not! Our merchandise will be available for sale online, long after you have returned home from your adventure. Over the next few weeks, some minor tweaks will be done to the website to incorporate the online store. Once its running, we’ll report it in the blog here.

Easter 2009

The Savannahlander runs to a special timetable during the Easter four day long weekend. We will be putting a package together for those who are wondering what to do with themselves over this break. Easter trips are offered at a discount rate and are ideal for locals, or groups who can rarely find the time off to travel together on the normal Wednesday to Saturday services

Railway Hotel, Almaden

Those of you who have travelled in the past, may recal enjoying a Wednesday or Saturday lunch with old Joe at the Railway Hotel in Almaden. Recently, Joe retired and we welcome the new publican, Ron, to his new business. Ron has plans to improve the accommodation standard of the pub, and we hope to send a few more travellers over his way to enjoy the hospitality.

And Finally:

We’ll finish of with a couple of random photos. These were taken by Hamish Withington on a recent charter trip.

The sun has set as an empty car service makes its way to Forsayth. Scenes like this will be a thing of the past, once the work at Einasleigh is finished
