Gulflander & Savannahlander | Print |

The Gulflander, like the Savannahlander, is one of Australia's best rail trips. So why not experience two of Australia's greatest rail journeys in the same week?

To do the combined trip you first need to get out to Normanton, there are (at least) two ways to do this:

1.  Fly to Normanton with Skytrans Airways. Unfortunately, a recent timetable change means that this must now be undertaken on a Monday, and therefore requires an additional nights accommodation in Normanton (or Karumba). If flying, you need to make your own arrangements for the flight by contacting the Skytrans Website for an online booking, or by calling 1300 759 872. You then have a free day in Normanton on Tuesday and begin your train journey on the Gulflander on the following day. We look after all your arrangements from when you arrive at Normanton.

2.  Coach to Normanton with the Transnorth Service, departing Cairns on Monday Morning. In view of the change of flight times, coach travel to Normanton has become a very attractive option. The coach used on this service has recently been upgraded from the old Coasters that used to service the route, to a more appropriate long distance coach with a greatly improved level of comfort. On this service, begin your journey through the stunning scenery of Kuranda and the Atherton Tablelands, before tacking west from Ravenshoe. Stops are made at the towns of Mt Garnet, Mt Surprise, Georgetown, and Croydon. Note that people electing to take up this option will be required to pay a non refundable $130.00 per person deposit, as the coach tickets are not refundable (even to us) once they are booked.

The package details for 2010 are:

The cost of flights are not included in the price if you elect to transfer out to Normanton by air. Included travel on both Gulflander and Savannahlander trains, bus transfers from Cairns to Normanton (if not flying), Croydon to Georgetown and Georgetown to Forsayth. Below are some options that can be added to this package:

If booking travel to Normanton by bus, it is necessary to charge a non refundable $130 per person deposit, as the fares are non refundable once booked. This will be charged once we call you to confirm the arrangements.

Note: Prices are based on securing the listed accommodation. During peak season, if accommodation is booked out, we will offer alternative accommodation which can affect the price both up or down.
